Interesting reading all your responses - thank you.
Ok so just a bit of info on the reality of catching them - I've got a mate who's an ex cop from the area, and he took the time to explain it. You could inform the MET in London, and they might put it on the system, but they get dozens of pings...
Scottish ones not interested, advised by an ex police friend that the Met won't do a thing about it either. Sigh. Going to try the Hertfordshire ones re: the latest fuel theft, as that's outside the Met and they may chase it if there's CCTV. £115 of diesel.... either it was very expensive diesel...
Yes that's been suggested. And indeed, should we really have to hide our reg... this may have been someone we passed on the motorway a year ago, back when we could travel.... been as close as Oxford in the past.... but I've just blanked it out anyway! Too late this time I know!
I'm back on here after a long absence because some total scumbag has cloned our Merc and now there's a lookalike driving around London and Hertfordshire, pretending to be us, driving through congestion zones and filling up at fuel stations and driving off without paying - and who gets all the...
Right- long delay due to long trip away- but the day before we left, the garage changed the actuator and we've since done 2,500 miles, including 1000 towing the caravan, and it hasn't gone into limp mode once - so I guess that was it! Phew!
Thanks for advice :)
Wish I could tell you - hubby takes it there, to about 5 different garages now over the last year, and I've never been able to get him to remember to find out! only that they have 'all the right stuff' which clearly isn't helpful!
Update - been in Edinburgh for 2 weeks.
Weirdly, it was perfect all the time we were away, down to Edinburgh and back twice, then as soon as we came home it went into limp mode on the hill now named 'limp hill' coming out of Inverness just passing the Drummossie Hotel on the A9 south.... six out...
Ugh, we've had the new intercooler fitted AND a fuel pump regulator (it came up saying it was faulty on the computer) and had a service, as it was due. Going like a rocket, but got limp mode again within 20 minutes.
Turbo was tested last week. That would include actuator I assume.
Can't think...
We've found a decent secondhand intercooler for £60 so that's ok. Took it to the garage, and it broke down while it was there - they had to push it in - turning over but not starting, computer says it's fuel pump related! That's a new one to add to the list!
Started off that way (thought it was the electrics getting confused - 4 garages failed to find a problem) then a year later it's started doing it even when we aren't towing and the engine isn't even hot yet.
Right- it's been in for investigations, and there are NO fault codes showing, and the guy says the only thing he can find is a small hole in the intercooler, possibly caused by a stone chip, and it might be that.
Merc going to a place with the right equipment tomorrow. Interestingly, after a year of going into limp mode when towing, it's now started doing it when it's NOT towing. Twice in 50 minutes, and under no strain at all... will update if we get an answer.
Hi,
Our E320 is brilliant at towing, BUT it has this annoying habit of suddenly losing power. Suddenly, acceleration is slug-like and we manage about 40mph and no more. When we stop and switch off and re-start it is normally fine again! It's rather inconvenient on the M6!
Sometimes it does it...
