Does make you wonder if it’s worth shelling out the extra cash for a genuine part, when in reality they are no better than an aftermarket pattern part. Lemforder part on ECP is only £113, as opposed to £175 from Mercedes…

Thanks for replies guys. Part was purchased in July 2019, so over 2 years ago. Think I’d have a battle on my hands to try and get anything…

Morning all, been a while since I posted, just been lurking in the background.
Anyway, I just wondered if Mercedes put any warranty on their parts?
I had my car serviced by MBS last week, and they picked up the OSF strut cross needs replacing as the ball joint has failed. They are correct, the...
Aside from what’s been mentioned already, water pump, bushes, ball joints etc, I’d have a listen for any rattles from the timing chain area. Start it from cold, see if you can hear any rattles.
It all depends on what sort of life it’s had, if it’s done short start stop journeys, the chain might...
I had similar on my 2012 w204 a few years back, but it was the bottom ball joint on the lower arm. Which you’ve already replaced..
Doesn’t sound like engine mounts. Could be a snapped spring, top mounts or the shock absorber itself?
Cheers

You’d think they’d be worth more? [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
Yes, I wish I joined this forum before I bought mine. Didn’t have a preference at the time of buying, but next one will defo be an auto.

Been following this thread as I too have a 2012 C220cdi estate.. I’ve had the timing chain changed and noticed I still have a slight rattle that does change when pressing the clutch. Took it to MBS and they suspected the DMF. They assured me nothing will let go suddenly, they’ve heard much...
He knows his stuff, and if you give him live data from your diagnostics he might be able to pin point the problem.
Good luck.

Give Mike at DPF cleaning a call. He’s based in Gosport, so not sure if Aldershot is a bit far, but he will definitely point you in the right direction. Probably just a faulty sensor….

The other half’s Astra is a 2.0 diesel, 165bhp, same age as my c class, but that is only £30 a year to tax. I understand it’s a much lighter car, and no doubt pumps out less emissions (altho they way she drives, I’m not so sure [emoji23]), but the difference cannot be enough to warrant a £100+...
Fine margins eh? Yes the tyres are wider on the sport, and I have 18” rims, whereas he only has 17”.
Annoying though.
When we had our Passat, it was one of the first models to have the more modern common rail engine, but because of its age, it fell into a different band. Had it been 6 months...
Hi guys
So I recently got my car tax reminder through the post, and it’s gone up again for the 3rd year running. Obviously the government trying to get me out of a dirty diesel [emoji849] Anyway, it’s now £155 a year to tax my 2012 C220cdi sport
A colleague at work also has a 2012 C220cdi, but...
When I bought mine, I had it serviced right away. The Indy I use have access to the online service records and were able to print it all for me.
As for the chain, I think it depends on what kind of life the car has had. Like I said, a colleague ran his up to 230k miles without any problems, but...
I had a service done at the same time, as it was due, and they have to drain the oil when changing the chain anyway. Cost me just under £1k which I thought wasn’t too bad..
If yours isn’t making any noise there’s really nothing to worry about at this stage. Enjoy it [emoji106]

I agree, stop/start has a big part to play in this. Personally I wasn’t prepared to take the risk with just changing the tensioner. The Indy said the chain had stretched, so I’m glad I had it replaced, just for peace of mind.
A colleague had a w204 c250 which he owned from 6 months old and sold...
That’s the exact reason I steered clear of a BMW. Little did I know the merc would suffer the same...
To be honest, it’s not as bad on the merc, as long as you catch it early enough. At 63000 miles you should be ok. I bought mine on 72k and was fine up until last year when it hit about 98k I had...
That will have the OM651 engine. What is the mileage? If you can, be worth listening for any rattles when starting from cold. Timing chain is a weak point on these engines, and with many of them now racking up the miles, it’s becoming more of a problem.
I’ve just had mine replaced. The Indy I...
What C class is it? I know the w204 diesels suffer with split intercooler pipes. I managed to catch mine before it went into limp mode. Spotted it by having the window down and hearing a loud hiss as the turbo starts boosting. Not really a whistling noise though.
