I had my MOT today and they spotted a screw in one of the tyre.

I went to a tyre shop to get it repaired.

I asked before hand how much to get it repaired. £1 an inch.

Repair done, he charged me £16! £1 x 16 inches. any logic?

I should had gone to kwik fit

I remember now, next time you got a puncture, pop by national tyre, you will get it done for free instead of being robbed for silly money

I can only guess that they meant £1 per tyre size inch. e.g 16" tyre = £16, 17" tyre £17.

On a related note, I also had a MOT advisory for a screw in the tyre this month - strangely this is not a fail! Worn tyres are but a puncture isn't.

I'd have thought that a puncture\deflating tyre was as much of a danger as bald tyres but obviously not in the eyes of the DVLA.

It used to be £1/inch for hanging baskets.....probably more now.

Mic

Is that for when they were reaching up to hang the basket :(

Thanks to the EU, Hanging baskets must now be referred to as, Life-term Baskets. and the cost has increased to 1€/centimetre.

I thought the ECHR had recently effectively outlawed life terms? So they're now only "25 minus parole baskets"

I tried to pull the screw out, while the tester was inspecting the affected wheel, he said don't pull it now!

at the tyre shop, the repairer pulled out the screw, the air flushed out!

Seems a curious way to price puncture repairs as I cant see how tyre diameter relates to puncture size. Bigger tyres means deeper pockets in the eyes of the repairers maybe ?
