My A service and MOT is due in May. So I phoned Southport Mercedes just because that's were I got it from. They've quoted me £268 for an A service and MOT and clean and grease the Pan roof. Personally I don't think that's to bad, BUT
i could be wrong, what do you lot think.

Id be happy with that from a main dealer, don’t think it’s worth going anywhere else Tony.

If that is easier than finding an Indie and they'll MOT then it sounds ok.

Pretty much, they're supposed to check other things that might need lubing including fluid levels, but any additional item i.e. brake fluid, air filters are not covered. It's a B1 so the don't even change pollen filter.

If you are preserving Mobilio recovery by keeping a full MB service history , then ok , but if you haven't got Mobilio already , have a read up on the Mercedes 7+ year old "budget" service (basically an A service oil change) , which was £150 ish , but you could provide your own oil (£30 from their parts dept ) , which dropped it to £90 .

Forgot to mention, the service I get is in accordance with MB ESS using correct parts, and the invoice states this! He has STAR among other diagnostics, only thing he can't do is update the online service record on MB's mainframe.

I realise what your saying Bembo , hopefully won't need pads and discs as they were done when I bought the car of them last May. And I've only done 7k in 12 months. A cynic might say they will be looking for summut to fail, but we're do you draw the line, you have to trust somebody, sometime. They did a B service when I bought the car, and it's been faultless so I'm gonna trust them.

its your money ( and faith ) pal , I just don't trust main dealers , on the MOT thing , its their football so if they fail it you don't really have a choice but replace the parts it failed on right ?

Difference of £94 ?
I’d go main dealer every time .
But only my opinion.

Interesting.

Would you pay £94 more and use the main dealer because you (a) think you get better value for money or (b) it keeps main dealer service history intact?

I'm the opposite:D
I trust my indy to actually do the jobs that need doing whilst paying less. The service book is still updated and OE parts are used.
The number of times I have read that main dealers have charged for new air filters when its obvious looking afterwards they haven't been changed.

I’ve never had a main dealer find work at an MOT - they used to do £30 MOT’s as well.

Research (by other organisations, not me, including Trading Standards) along with personal and shared experiences dictate there is no significant advantage to a main dealer OR an Indy. There are good and bad of both in equal measures. If you have a good relationship or trust with a garage, regardless of franchise or not, that's where I'd spend my money.

That's pretty good. We would charge £199 for the same.

Main dealer will literally change oil/filter and top up washer on an A.

All the door hinge lubrications, underbody inspection stuff they will only do on a B.

Either way, a pretty good price. Do check if its a value service, as it won't keep mobilo etc up to date.
