Silly wife of mine got done today for not wearing a seat belt. £60. Too busy yapping to her sister on leaving Tesco car park in Greenock.

What annoyed me most was they done the full check on my car, lights, tyres, horn, screen washer, radio check on the car, etc etc.

2 boy police officers, early 20s, trying to make themselves into traffic cops through the ranks. ****ses me off.

I simply can't understand how anybody can 'forget' to put a seatbelt on? Especially when the warning lights on the dash are screaming at you to put it on.

The thought of smashing through the windscreen head first always 'reminds' me to put mine on. That and Jimmy Savile's clunk click safety campaign.

The thought of Jimmy Savile preaching to people to be safe. Shudder:shock:

Think he meant a check on the car BY radio - Insurance, MOT, Owner, Mothers Maiden Name, Inside Leg Measurement, Blood Group etc

On the CL216 it starts off with a bleep then increase in sound until you put it on. It feels odd if not wearing the belt to me.

this penalty is going to rise to £100.i am not sure but 3 pts could be attached too, i was reading a list of the current offences being updated so might be wrong on the 3 pts.

Someones disabled my dinger - All I get is a tiny warning light which soon goes out !?

Is that right on an SL ? I was expecting drama like yours Malc.

I had nothing much on my SL Mark, nothing audible that I can recall on that one :(

I'm sorry, but I think that's fair enough. I don't think for many people a £60 fine is enough to prevent them from offending again. The indignity of having your car crawled over at the side of the road while every Tom, Dick and Harry has a good gawp as they go by will probably linger in the mind far longer. Maybe even enough to remember to belt up.

I wonder if you would feel the same if it were a lowered, howitzer tailpiped, 500 bhp stereo hatchback with a couple of semi literate tracksuits on board. Would it still be boys then?
No belt, get tugged.

None at present
It has only been compulsory in the UK to wear seat belts in the front of a car since 31st January 1983. Even at 61 as a driver I still remember to put on my seat belt before even starting the engine. A lot of younger driver colleagues do seem to difficulty with remembering to belt up needing car driven reminder "dings" etc

She wasn't wearing a seatbelt...so off course they checked the car.

People who don't care about safety may neglect other aspects of safety to do with the car itself. You do them a dis-service, and should be a little humbled that these young officers cared enough to make sure the car driven by the law breaker was safe.

What's more to the point you might have been happier about the full check if they had pulled up a thief without a seat belt on who had just pinched your car from Tescos/Asda etc

Just doing their job, and protecting your investment.

Sometimes you can honestly just forget, or maybe it's just me. When we go out and we take the dog with us it takes me so long to get myself sorted in the passenger seat that often Keith has driven off before I've had the chance to put my seatbelt on and because the dog is on my lap, plus my handbag, phone, poop bags, tennis ball, water bottle etc I honestly don't realise till we get where we are going that my seatbelt isn't on
