My brother has found a dark silver 2006 march 06 C320 CDI estate - new v6 engine and 7 speed auto at an auction and the reserve is £8800, however he tells me an offer of £8500 will be accepted.

Its done 98,000 miles and has fmbsh, last serviced (B) at 97,000.

Its the elegance and has leather and is in VGC.

I am wondering if this sounds like a good deal, I am wary as I have a feeling this model may still be depreciating a fair bit as its the old model and is a bit outdated by the new models standards and have a slight worry about the high mileage. I would like to think it would be worth around £6500 in a couple of years time with 125,000 on the clock but worry it may tumble and only be worth around £4500.

I have been a victim of E320 CDI black death before and hope this new V6 engine is different, as in reliable.

This car could be VERY good value for money. However, depreciation is always to be expected - maybe a bit less with a CDI (?). The mileage is nothing.

BTW, what was the 320 CDI engine that you had experienced previously (if not this one) ?

it was the older heavier 6 cyl one. I posted another thread about my e320 cdi woes yesterday.

It seemed to me that the w202 values seemed to drop heavily when the w203 car came out and I perceive that there is a bigger leap in quality and design from the w203 to the w204 than from the w202 to w203 if you follow so worry about the w203 values. But I suppose its lost most of its value already so can't complain too much.

Longevity wise the mileage is nothing for a CDI. People say 100k is run in for a modern diesel and having just hit that in mine, I'm inclined to agree. It's done 30k per years so it's spent most of that mileage cruising at 1500rpm, warmed up, in 7th I suspect. So wear should be minimal.
Yes it will still depreciate as will all cars but a 320cdi v6 estate should always be a desireable machine and how much can it drop from £8500. Assume its worth £4000 in 3 years, thats £1300 per year - thats nothing!
