03 SL East Entry Feature

I am having trouble programming the easy entry feature on my 03 SL350. The manual is as clear as mud and more complicated than if it were written in Chinese! My driver is short in the leg and virtually trapped once her seat is adjusted! When I got the car the seat went back and the steering wheel went forward to let her out, that doesn't happen now - what am I not doing right? Any help would be much appreciated. I am sure it is not rocket surgery but it seams like it!
