Hi everyone, I am new to both Mercedes and this forum.

My problem is that the passenger door lock button ( the little knob that sticks out of the door panel ) goes up and down around 3 or 4 times when locking/unlocking the car
It means that the door invariably doesn't lock or unlock when operating the central locking.

Any help is welcome, thanks in advance

Hello and welcome to the forum, sorry to say that a spring usually breaks in the locking motor, allowing the button to bounce, and it needs a new motor, the other possibility is that the locking rod where it passes through the door skin is tight or stuck in the rubber grommet

Thanks for your speedy reply.
Of the 2 possible causes I reckon it must be the motor as I have no problem pushing the knob down manually.

Is it a big job to change the motor or would I need to take it to a dealer ?
I'm quite handy when it comes to mechanical jobs.

Thats fine, I can supply you with the DIY details if you would like them, you do need a pop riveter, but they are cheap to buy

If you could let me have the details that would be great.

I can get my hands on a pop riveter. Forgive me for asking, but I notice that you have a link to Mercedes spares in your signature. Do you think I could get the motor I need from there or do I need to go to a dealer

Again, thanks for your help

Door latch motor

Hi Malcolm (Television), Come across this thread and it exactly describes my own problem - driver's door lock jumping up and down several times before stopping either open or closed, its unpredictable and can take several attempts to lock the car and is embarrassing when others are nearby watching.

I know its been 5 years since you posted your reply but if you still have the diagrams you talk about I'd be very grateful for a copy. Also, how on earth do you get into the door? I cant see any self tappers anywhere. Thanks in advance. Frank (TrueScot) TrueScot@Hotmail.Com

E320 CDI 2003 - Replacing door locking motor

I need to replace the door locking motor/mechanism on the driver's side. The button repeatedly jumps up and down when locking/unlocking. Its final position is unpredictably locked or unlocked. Any ideas/diagrams on how to do this would be useful if available. But my main question is, how on earth do I get into the door to start with? There doesn't seem to be any screws of clips visible.
