Hi,

Over the last week (mornings only) take two turns of the key to fire up, first time does turn over but wont start. figured it because we have had a cold snap, once its been started it does miss a beat. then for the rest of the days starts fine every time.

Strange one.

Hi,

Assuming it is a C220 CDI -- Does your dashboard glowplug light come on when you turn the key to position 2 ?

Hi,

I assume that, if there was a problem with the glowplugs there would be an error -- I would have thought that the EML light would be on the dashboard if there was an issue.
Have you hooked up a scanner to see if there are any issues?

Also, on my previous W203 C220 CDI, some of the fuel lines' connectors had become brittle over time and let air in. That caused the car to be slow to start. I renewed them which resolved the issue. You could look at them to see if there are air bubbles.
That issue wasn't cold weather related though.

Perhaps it's just grumpy on cold mornings. I know the feeling and often don't want to start the day when it's cold.

2009 car has no issues with drawing air in or uphill/downhill difference. They were true in W203 fuel system but this is W204 and different fuel system. Also glow plug does not play so big (non start) role if not crazy cold.

Try switching key to ignition position but do not crank. Let it be few sec, turn key back 0, then again 1, wait glow plugs and then start. If it helps it could be primer pump issue.

My 2008 C220Cdi starts instantly without the need to use of the glow plugs at -10.
