i have a spare motor for my 1983 230e that i want to recondition i have a few books on the car but non of them really tell you much about reconditioning the whole motor is there anybody out there that has any information that could help me as i will eventually need it my old motor has done 380000klm but is still running like a charm but nothing goes forever but i want to keep this car on the road for as long as is possible.

You will need to get the crankshaft reground get the cylinders rebored. Get net new pistons and crankshaft bearings. Better fit a new oil pump. Get camshaft checked also replace the valves & timing chain replace the front cogs not forgetting the rails & chain tensioner then the engine should be like brand new. Just drop your engine into an engineering shop that reconditions engines and they will tell you what actually needs done. hope this helps

thank you for your advice but what i am realy after is a sort of blown up view of the bottom of the motor showing all the bits that make up the motor most books only go into detail on the head :lol: leo
