How easy are these to change and does it make a noticeable difference to performance/economy? ( 72k miles) Are Bosch injectors correct for Mercedes? Expensive?

depending on engine

not too complex, variable costs, and maybe not necessary. Bosch only I'm afraid. What makes you suspect the injectors?

The car has done 72k miles, generally well cared for and serviced but she runs "lumpy",tick over jumps from 500rpm to 1200,then 800,then 1000 and other times fine, but then sometimes fails to deliver any revs/power when trying to accelerate,ie;when pulling out of a junction. On the motorway you can feel the occasional momentary hic-up.I have been advised that a routine injector replacement is normal at 70k miles! Hmm,what do you reckon?

I'd be tempted to try a good long Italian tune-up

before I started whipping off injectors. Get your fuel tank nearly empty, fill up with Shell V Power, put 2/3ds of a bottle of Redex treatment in your tank and go for a good long "spirited" drive. My 300TE has a tuning plug for the ignition which I move to "S" for Super petrol. If you have one, and you probably will, do the same.
Use the throttle a lot, cruise at high revs for a while, generally blow the cobwebs out. If it still persists after a couple of hundred miles of nifty motoring, then I'd be tempted to book her into an indie or a Bosch Diagnostic centre ( not your local MB Dealers, they might be clueless) and have them give the fuel and ignition a good sniff around.
Option one is cheaper and more fun.

Thanks again for the info re: fuel injectors.I`ll try the V Power and Redex,my gut feeling is that it is,hopefully, just a case of blowing out the cobwebs as you say.
