I have recently purchase my 107 and am really pleased with it.

I thought I tested everything out but discovered yesterday that the Winscreen washers don't work and neither do the headlight washers or wipers.

The main wipers do however work and of course F11 is OK.

I have obviously located the washer bottle with both washer motors and the headlamp wiper motor.

I already purchased a CD based service manual that at first glance seems great but if I enter 1981 380 SL whilst I get the expected idents i.e. Model 107.045, Engine 116.960 when I delve into the electrical circuits there is no mention of the headlight wiper/washer assembly.

I am obviously going to have to dig deeper but I thought I would try and pick a few other brains first.

Cheers...Alan

With a little multi meter costing no more than £5 you can check all of these things.

In your case its only a matter of putting the meter across the offending article get some one to operate it. By having one lead of the meter going directly to ground (chassis) you can work out the fault and see if it is getting any power.
Put the leads onto the washer, if you have 12volts when the switch or button is pressed show that the washer pump has gone, and do the same with the wipers if no 12volt you know that it is a fuse or the switch, and so on. I can allways help you through it.

find my post on this with my SL 500 - http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=20244 - the problem was just a dirty connection on one of my pumps - a total of two hours to fix it including doing it twice - the second time to replace the pump to tank mount/seals and two visits to the MB stealer once to order the parts second visit to collect them total cost £1.00

I have determined that both washer pumps had seized - am attempting repair as I had to prize off the pump end to free the spindle.

Situation now is that main washers work but headlight wipr/wash do not.

As these should only work with then headlights on I suspect there is a fuse/relay/circuit I don't know about.

500SL headlamp wiper challenge

We are undegoing a simmilar restoraton on our 1983 500SL

Not many R107 SL headlamp wipers work apparently, there lies the challenge!.

The operating mecahnism is a coiled push rod that corrodes itself into its guide tube.

Have freed all but 3 inches. Wrecked the motor in the process of getting it all apart. Main power feed was soldered into the motor under the wheel arch.

If anyone has a spare wiper motor or the gearbox / power connection, would be interested.
