Are there any 'direct fit' type speakers that fit the dashboard fasia of the W124? My standard 21 year old paper ones have blown all the bits out.
My concern is that the 13cm ones that you see on the wall in halfords will protrude up too much and I wont be able to get the speaker cover back over them.
Anyone changed the speakers on the dash of their 124?

Hi,
Rainbow make a direct fit for the front (and Back) and as far as I know there is only one place in UK to order them
http://www.raysmith.co.uk/advanced_...20&osCsid=jh7nkj988q06dcg7e14t82k9k0&x=29&y=9

This is the cheaper of the 2, there is anothr on his site thats around £115. I understand that if you mention the MBCLub when ordering you get 10% discount.

I bought a set of 12cm Pioneers of ebay (new/old stock) to go in the front but found that even they wouldnt fit without cutting them apart, so didnt bother yet.

Cheers
Simon

nice 201 2.5D 1993 & very nice 129 SL500 1994
I fitted some 100 mm 4" units onto reducer plates due to the difficulties in getting a decent unit that fitted the (non)standard 124's front holes.
I trimmed the outside edges from the plastics backing of the grille assembly supplied with some realy sh1te units I got from maplins and fitted some short M4 csk screws thru the plate as speaker mounting studs, the whole adaptor assy is now bonded (2 pack epoxy)into the old hole and fitted with some nice Sony 4" 2 way units supplied by CPC at about 25 quid the pair. It works and sounds OK.

Original speakers made by Blaupunkt are available from the dealer for about £30 / pair. They have the correct hook & spring clip mounting

Yeah the ones I took out were the original blaupunkt ones. But the cones were made from paper and the rubber seal around it had perished. I was reluctant to get the same again - i think speaker technology has moved on since mine were installed in 1986!

It has. But most car speakers still have paper cones and rubber suspension

Just ordered a pair of dash speakers from my local dealer - £15.88 each. Part no 124 820 39 02 (or MB6 6 82 8377 on the invoice). However dealer said rear speakers are no longer available - anyone else had this too?

Hi

Can anyone please tell me what speakers were standard fit in the rear doors of my 230TE 1992. It has Kenwoods in at the moment, the drivers side one doers not work, and I know I need to check the wiring to it.

Thanks

Tony

Rear door speakers were a fairly rare option on W124s and they had a grille set into the doorhandle. Behind that grille was a small Blaupunkt unit. They may be available from a dealer but I doubt it. You could use any speaker in there that will fit

If your speakers are cut into the door card they're non-standard and could be anything. Lots of cars had Blaupunkt speakers fitted by dealers

Thanks for the reply Nick.

That'll be mine having butchered rear door cards then.

So were estate owners treated as second class citizens with only front speakers, whilst the toffs in their saloons had speakers in the rear shelf?
