Recently my W124 failed to start - the symptom seemed to be a faulty alarm system as the engine turns over fine, but doesnt does not seem to have ANY ignition -s imilar to the engine ignition being disabled. The engine started fine multiple times in the same day - disconnecting the battery triggered the alarm sound. Could this be an alarm/ignition issue or maybe I should look at the electric fuel pump - something else perhaps? Thanks for any guidance or direction!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

When you turn the key does the fuel pump under the passenger side rear of the wheel run for a few seconds and stop

People have previously posted on checking the fuel pump relay, it may be worth doing a search, I think this could be what Malcolm is alluding to.

Could also be the OVP relay. I had a similiar problem with my E320.

All: Thanks for all the advice on this post. The problem turned out to be a defective "Over-Voltage Relay", so everyone that posted above was on the right track! The bad OV relay was apparently preventing the fuel pump from working and delivering fuel to the engine - hence the symptom of "no ignition", but the issue was the engine was not getting any fuel. Thanks Again!

Just for the info on 124 cars the OVP relay does play a different role to the earlier cars where it just affected the ABS. On later cars it formed part of the engine management as well
