I have just got my 124 280TE back from a head gasket job and having the electrics to the coils repaired. I've been out and about already but today I've been out on a long fast run and the battery is gassing like mad (popped radiator style), It's a bosch silver no maintainence job. I am assuming the voltage regulator is knackered or has been disturbed. It's charging to about 16.5 volts. Anyone any ideas? Also the battery holding a charge but must be boiled dry how do you top up these things? Many thanks!

im not sure what type of alt uv got but there is only 2 thinks i can think of which can cause overcharging

1. the voltage reg has gone

2. if the alt has a battery sensing wire it has lost the feed so the alt will charge flat out without knowing the condition/charge of the battery

dont think ull have the second but its worth checking 2 make sure, if the reg has gone u should be able 2 swap it in situe at a cost of about £25
