Hi, I have an E320 cabriolet with the standard sportline 15 inch 8 hole alloy wheels. There seems to be very little alternative to these without losing the 'original equipment' look, but I wondered if anyone has tried the 16 inch version of this wheel. Any images of them on the car appreciated plus guidance on the all important offset.
Thanks for your thoughts.

I have sent you a private message, with some details for 16" 8 hole alloys,

Tony

E500 16" 8-hole wheels will fit but they are wider and the tyres may foul the front arches on full lock and through dips

Thanks for your responses. The indications are that one would have to use a 7 or 7.5 inch wide wheel as the 8 inch ones are likely to produce the fouling issues described. Whilst there may be a supply of 8 inch wheels about due to their fitment on the SL, it seems that the narrower ones are rarer? I have seen 8-holes on a couple of W210 cars recently but don't know what width they would be.
Cheers.

Do not forget that the SL's (129) use an offset of around 35 and the 124 more around 40 so if you car used ET40, and you used ET30, the wheels would sit further out by 10mm and that is almost ½"

But... if you put an 8" rim on a car that normally has 6.5 or 7" rims then you'll need to push the wheels out half an inch to maintain the clearance between the tyre and the suspension components and the tyre and the inner wings when on full lock

Ideally you vary the offset to keep the centre of the contact patch in the same lateral location regardless of wheel width. But that goes out of the window when you are on full lock and the tyre is catching the inner wing

Sure the 8" are too wide for comfort, the 7.5 are OK

So, given the existing wheel is 15 x 7.5 and we replace it with a 16 x 7.5 we should make sure that the offset remains the same or very close. Different offsets are likely to lead to fouling issues regardless of rim diameter.
Cheers.

Yes you will have no problem with a 7.5" as long as the ET is the same, or a little less
