ok, this may seem like a silly question but ... i run a 190E 1.8, all is fine, love the car. a friend of mine is scrapping her '74 450SL, and has offered me whatever bits i want. i'm thinking, i'd like a V8 in my car. is this a possibility... or am i stupid to even consider it?

the SL engine was rebuilt with new everything 1,000 miles ago, runs very sweet

AMG, Brabus and all the other big tuning firms were putting V8's in 190's in the eighties.

As far as I am aware a V8 will go in with some modification but the amount of fabrication and fettling required will be significant and unless you are very skilled or feel like shelling out several grand on labour alone I would leave the car as is.

Perhaps a 2.6 or a 16 valve might be a simpler option.

Good luck if you do go for it.
