Hello. Spent the weekend awakening my gorgeous 190E 2.6 from it’s 20 months slumber, amazing how time fly’s. With the engine running I have noticed that the cooling fan runs continuously and straight from start up (no A/C). Is this correct for the 2.6 engine? I think not, but can anyone confirm. I seem to remember, some years ago, my 123 280CE had a similar problem that was a sticking/faulty thermostatic sensor for the fan, which was located somewhere on the engine block. Does this sound probable in this case. If so, can anyone tell me where this sensor is located on the 2.6 engine? Thanks for looking.

On Mercedes the temperature sensor that affects the auxillary fan is normally located on the thermostat housing.

With the Viscos fan mounted on the engine this version does run all of the time, when the engine reaches 80c then it should speed up, this being the case you have no fault. I do believe that you have a Visco fan on your car, if there are no wires going to it or coming out of the top, then this will confirm it.
