:D I have just picked up my new car a Mint 190e 2.6 auto on a G with 128k miles and only 2 owners.
To be fair I have not seen a car of this age looked after this well for a long time.
She is white has the plastic pannels on the bottom, lowered with 17" gen AMG alloys and a black cloth trim which looks new.

How ever I have noticed that the boot is damp and when you open the boot lid it sounds as if there is water in it ( the boot lid ) can some one tell me if this is a simple rubber seel that I need to change or some thing else, also the rear passanger door outter handle will not open the door the one on the inside works what could this be ???
Any help would be good

Paul.

water in boot lid

Hi Bigman
this question has cropped up b4 and maybe you can scroll bacK a bit and find similar Q`s to yr own. i belive that water can enter via the lock as i remember. also possibly the boot seal needs replacing? also you might have some rust corrosion around the bottom corners of the rear window. stick your head in the boot and look up for tell tale signs of the brown stuff around the boot hinge area. water can drip in then form condensation on the underside of the boot lid and then trickle back into the leading rim/edge of the boot lid. i bet if you lift the boot lid briskly you can hear water sloshing around and possibly water will spill out onto the boot carpet. this happens to mine and im thinking about drilling a couple of small holes in the underside of the boot lid leading edge to help drain the water away until i can sort out the rust around the rear window, when the weather gets betterin spring.

hope this is of some help to you. i also have a w123 200 saloon which if parked on a hill during a rainy patch will always have water in the boot wells because water collects around the corner of the rubber boot seal (at the window end) and cannot escape so it backs up and overflows into the boot!

best regards

Bob

Boot damp

While you're in the boot, check that water is not entering around the electric aerial. This can cause the top of the wing to rust out from the inside. A new seal from MB costs £2.
Worth a look !

Water seems to enter at bottom corners of rear window, gets under rear parcel shelf and drips into boot, trouble is it then evaporates and condenses on bootlid interior, then runs into rear of bootlid until you open the boot and the whole process starts again.
I had a complete weather system going on in my boot.
cure for mine was:
1. Leave the boot open on a good dry day, with the spare wheel cover pulled up (switch off boot lamp)
2. Remove the small black plug on the L/H rear lower edge of the bootlid and chuck it away.
3. Seal around the lower corners of the rear window (have a look underneath the rear shelf for any rust starting, difficult to repair if it gets a hold.
4.Have a cup of tea.
