Each morning, when I get into my car to go to work, most of my rug mats are soaked with water. We are in the rainy season in my part of the world, but I cover my excellently shaped '84 190E with a fully surrounding waterproof car cover. I just purchased some spiffy OEM rug mats, and I want to install them, but I don't want them immediately ruined. Does anyone have a clue where I should first begin my investigation? A friend of mine suggested checking to ensure on the condition of a device I am not familiar with. I think he indicated it was a climate-control system's *mini* heater core device that may be leaking fluid. If so, where is this deviced located?

Wet/damp foot wells.

My solution was posted on Nov. 5th 2001 and resolved the problem after all else had failed. E-mail me if you cant find it.

Check the aircon drain pipes are both in place (under heater box assembly) , they exit the car either side of the gearbox forward of the centre consol, it's amazing how much condensate is produced by your aircon system. Also 190's are prone to coolant leaks from the O rings where the heater pipes enter the heater matrix. Is the water appearing on top of the carpets, or are they wet underneath? not many other places that give trouble, are all bulkhead grommets in place, check your sunroof (if fitted) drains are not blocked, open sunroof and pour a small amount of water into the side gulleys, should run out below the car either side. Had one car once where the water was entering the engine wiring loom plastic sleeve under the bonnet and running through to the interior and dripping on the guys feet, (someone had cut the loom open to connect an alarm up).
