Hi

Is it possible anyone knows when the 190E became a 5 speed automatic gearbox? I have a 1989 G reg 2.0 4 speed auto and want to know which model will have a 5 speed auto gearbox that will require no modification to fit my car and engine. Is this possible or will i have to swap the engine and gearbox together for the relevant matching items from the donor car?
Any help with this would be appreciated as i can then look around in the new year for the right year and model to do this conversion.
Many thanks

I think you will find that the 5 speed box is electric and the fourspeed is not.
if this is the case you would have to change the engine ECU and wiring.
the gate is also not the same and would have to be changed as well.

A lot of work

Malcolm is right, the 5 speed box can't just be swapped for the 4 speed.

It was introduced mid 90's on the W124 and when it's working well it's an absolute joy :)

So, it will probably be a no go for the 300TE24 as well, you'll have to find a 5 speed E320T
