I have recently changed the valve seals on my 190E (D reg) 2.0. I changed the timing chain (single chain) also. After putting the engine back together, I seem to have encountered another problem. The engine is running extremely rich. It has been for a tune-up, but to no avail. The explanation I've been given is that 'the engine is taking in too much air'. I have taken the engine apart again and re-checked everything. The timing components are correctly aligned (according to the Haynes manual). Everything seems to be in order. I just can't understand what is going on. Does anybody have any other ideas of where I might need to look? There is something I have probably overlooked, no doubt. Any help with guidance in this mattter would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Abu,

From the details you have explained here. There is nothing that springs to mind. Especially that would send the vehicle rich. It does not make sense the vehicle running rich, with excessive air. Whatever excessive air means. Ie, are they talking that its got an air leak, and the emmisisions are showing high oxygen reading?

My advice to you would be get it into somebody who knows what they are talking about to get it checked over properly. I assuming also that you have no other running problems ie, hard cold start or flatspots.

Regards

Thank you Andy for your reply. I took it to some Mercedes specialists yesterday in Fulham London. They have fixed the problem. There were some hoses 'fixed up the wrong way'. I am now a happy bunny. Thanks.
