190E letting water into boot

Water seems to be getting in around the rubber seals where the interior air is vented below the rear window pillar. The slatted cover is easy enough to remove but has anyone has this problem before? Also, how is the air vented from inside the car as there does not seem any obvious looking panels.

Did you ever get a response from this elsewhere? I have a '84 190E in excellent condition, except for an interior-water problem that I am trying to pinpoint. Most of my interior rug mats are soaked, and I can't pinpoint the problem. It is the rainy season, but I cover my car each night/day with a waterproof car cover, so I'm not sure what to investigate first. A firend suggestion I check the *min* heater core device that is used for circulating interior air to make sure that device is not leaking radiator fluid.

Hi Jeff, every mercedes I have owned has left water in to the boot, w112,w114,w123,w124 and 126. I have found that it is the rear window seal fails and after time the steel panel underneath the rear window rusts through, thus letting water in to the boot. Difficult to detect but worth lookng into the boot under the parcel shelf for signs of rust, may be an indication of what I was talking about.
Check seals around rear lights also.
Good luck
Mike

My 190E used to leak into boot, water would enter past the rubber ducting behind the side grills, onto rear parcel shelf (under trim) and then drip into the boot side wells, during cold weather this would condense on the bootlid interior and then drip on my luggage. I had a mini weather system going on in my boot. cured by sealing the rubber ducting thoroughly. I also removed the small grommet under the bootlid rear edge (n/side) to let any condensed water run out. Check under rear shelf (in boot) and inside the crossmember (beside hinges) for rust starting as a result, cured mine by spraying rust killer in the holes and then waxing everything (use a can with a long straw).

water in boot

Cured mine by re-sealing rear window seals as water was running in through there. Used a weird sounding product called captain tolleys creeping crack cure - available from caravan accessory places. It did the trick brilliantly!

the real thing

I know it sounds like it should only be available on prescription but it is real ( despite the name ) and whats more it works!

It cures those leaky rear window seals like a dream - it should become an official MB part no :D .

Check it out :!:
