Hi guys,

Last night on my way back from Leicester on the M1 i noticed the temperature gauge creep up to 120 degrees...!!!

Then stuck in traffic, the car felt very shaky...

Got home checked the coolant and it was fine, checked the fan and it was working...

So can anyone shed any light on this please? The car is a 1990 190E 2.5-16

thanks in advance!

Zak

Hi mate,
Your thermostat may have stuck.
When/if it happens again, check to see if the top hose and radiator are hot or not. If they aren't, then either the thermostat is stuck or the water pump is knacked, therefore the hot coolant is not getting pushed through the radiator to cool.

DON'T drive it like this or you will at best blow your head gasket and at worse warp the head. Switch it off and let it cool down before you even consider running it!

Your Mercedes

in addition to the above should you find yourself in this situation again, turn on your HEATING full blast to disappate some of the heat from the radiator, believe it or not it works (might have to open the windows though)

cheers
