190E Water Pump Query

I recently purchased a water pump from GSF for a 1991 190E 1.8 Manual. On removal of the old pump we noticed that there is a hole approx 10mm dia. on the right hand side of the casing from which it was leaking. On the replacement, instead of a hole on the right, there is a small pipe protruding from the bottom of the casing which looks as though it should have a small dia. hose attached.

Everything else seems to match perfectly except this particular detail. Can anyone tell me if this is important or can we ignore it as a minor modification and go ahead and install it regardless?
I have also sent this message to GSF and await their reply.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Al.

Just fit it on as this is a retro part and not a genuine mercedes part...they need to change it so not to copy the original part

I remember reading somewhere that a hose can be connected to this so that water drains down and out under the engine rather than all over the water pump

Fran, I agree, and it does make more sense to have any coolant drain down and away from the engine, and not seep down the casing to be sprayed all over the engine compartment as happens with the original.
Thanks for replies folks.

Cheers,

Al.

Just a quick update.
Had reply from GSF and the answer was as we thought.

Dear Sir
This pipe does not have a hose connected it is exactly the same as your pump
with the hole. The pipe diverts the water further away from the pulley if
the seals go like in your old pump. This is ok to fit

Many thanks
GSF
