1977 350sl

what are the ceramic type small oblong block things fitted to inner flitch panel near to the coil, there are two and i have noticed 1 is cracked and the wire fitting is loose and will it affect the running of the car, looks like isolator ?

They could be the ballast resistors for the starting to boost the voltage,

it is a ballast resistor if it looks like this

Its shouldn't be cracked or have lose wires but as far as i'm aware you dont need two of em, and as they aare buried a bit maybe someone fitted a new one without removing the old one?
