1978 350 sl bonnet lever not working...help!!!

Hi can anyone help with this problem???

the lever in the passenger side footwell is not realising the bonnet so that i can reach through the merc badge grill to release the bonnet catch and open it.

Had a look through my haynes manual but there is nothing on bonnet release in it

Is there something i can do to open this another way or do i have to take it to a dealer, any help greatly appreciated.

Sometimes its possible to open. have someone push the bonnet down while you pull the lever, is the lever floating around lose. The final lock is right in the center of grill, looking up from under the car you can see the lock and it can be opened from the underside. pull the lever with cable to the nearside.

will try that also to answer your question.

its not floating loose is sort of stiffens in the latter thrid of its travel but does not clunk and pop the bonnet up so it can be opened.

OK needs oiling it will open with presure pushing the bonnel down.
