Looking for info on a 1980 300SD.
It leaks oil and have been told that the oil filter mount is cracked!
How serious can this be?
Is that filter mount an integral part of the engine block or easily repaired/remedied.
Can you please respond to me?
You will probably find that the housing is seperate and contains not only the oil filter but the oil pressure relief valve and possibly an output to the oil pressure guage in the car. Unusual for it to crack though. I will confess that I am not familiar with the 300D but I had a 240D
It is more likely that the rear crankshaft seal has given up the ghost. Oil will then leak into the clutch housing and through an aperture onto the ground.
Another thing that can happen is if the oil pressure relief valve is stuck the pressure can get so great that it will force it's way out from places it should not go.
