My 1982 280E will occasionally stall when I try to start going after a stop.  Once the car stalls it will not start again.   It does not matter if the car is warm or cold.  I have replaced the plugs, rotor and distributor cap and have replaced many vacuum lines and have plugged the vacuum lines leading from the motor to the door locks.  I have also given the cars several doses of injector cleaner.  I noticed that there was fresh oil (looks just like it does in the bottle) on the plugs when I replaced them.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

1982 280E Stalls

I noticed yesterday that each time I come to  a stop the oil pressure reading goes a little lower.  At the first stop it was right at 3 bars, but with each subsequent stoplight it fell to a lower level.  Finally, it fell to 1 bar.  When I tried to start going again, the car shuddered and then stalled.  I was thankfully able to get it started again and then kept it going at each stoplight by shifting to neutral, using my left foot to brake and revving the gas with my right foot.  Has anyone had this problem, and if so, how did you fix it?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

o,
i've had a similar problem with my 190e intermitent stalling rough idle and no.3 plug oiling up.so,last weekend nice sunny day nothing to do so off with it's head.on inspection the inlet valve seal was knackered, and excessive wear in valve guides.
oil pressure is ok at 1 bar if idling but should be 3 bar at 3000rpm,might be wise to get a compression test done.

1982 280E Stalls

I changed the spark plugs Saturday to autolites that were recommended by the local parts store. There was a great improvement, so it is possible that the bosch plugs WR9DC were incorrect. The electrodes on the new plugs are smaller and the porcelain part is shorter.

The old plugs looked ok; in fact they looked almost new. I generally try to use bosch everything, so I was really surprised the autolites made an improvement.
