1984 280SE Starting Problem

My 1984 280SE has recently developed an occasional starting problem. Starter motor turns but engine does not start. I have changed plugs, leads and distributer cap (this had the carbon brush missing). This usually happens in the morning when I NEED the car to got to work and by the time I come home and try again the car starts. Any help on what to change next would be appreciated.

Sounds like fuel to me. Not that well up on the 2.8, but maybe the fuel pump relay would be a place to start. After that, the cold start valve (remove and clean).
