Hello All,
Im new to the forum and I own a 1988 500SEL that i purchased without an ignition module because someone had tried to jump start the car and blew it up! The module was given to an agent acting for the previous owner to source a replacement but has now been lost so I dont have a part number for it which makes the job of finding a replacemnt so much harder.
The details I can confirm are:-
VIN # WDB1260372A433876
MY1988
Unit has 2 X 8 pin round plugs,
1 X 3 pin round plug,
1 X 1 pin sheilded plug,
Manifold pressure line connection

It apears so far from my investigations that the module looks similar to the later 91 on S500 and is not the usual 2 round 4 pin plug type associated with the W126 chassis. This car needs a n EZL module that is specific to the 1986-91 500SEL and possiblly other V8 engined cars of this version.
Any help and/or a part number would be much appretiated!

Regards
Mike

Heres a pic but you would need to confirm part nums as this is off a 560.

Thanks for the information. It would seem these units are very hard to find and very costly!
I have heard that the modules should work on most of the V8 engines from 86-91 as long as they have the 8 pin plugs.
The link you posted was interesting as one of the contributors had a unit for sale not far from me here in New Zealand! Ive pm'd him to see if it is still available.
If anyone else can help with information or supply please advise.
Im pretty sure the part number for the 500 SEL should be:
MB: 0075450732

Cheers

Hello Mike,

you are absolutely right.
I drive a 500SE from early 1990, it has the same EZL and the Mercedes-Part-Number is: 007 545 07 32

I have heard from other forums that you can use same EZL-Type from 420 and 560, because these engines have the same ignition-timings, but i never tried it myself, so be careful.

greetings

Lars

Hi,
Ive now located a 560 sel ignition module locally can anyone confirm that a 560 sel ignition module will work ok in a 500sel?
They are both the same layout of plugs so it will actually fit and connect up. Is there any ignition advance curves etc in this module that might be different? If there are any differences surely they cant be that great that would make a significant difference to the runing of the car?
Cheers
Mike

Hi All,
Thanks for the responce for info on this difficult to obtain EZL unit. As a direct result from info relayed on this forum to another forum i managed to locate an EZL module from a 560 that was local to me and with a bit of research had the ok to fit it as a direct replacement. I have now recieved the 560 module and i can confirm the car started and ran well after 3 years of being parked up!
I have a few other problems to resolve so will continue to be a contributing memeber or some time to come !!
Mike :)

Hi Mike,
I to live in NZ and I must commend you on your insert.
I am trying to help a lady who has a Mercedes 1989 500SEL WD126 who is in great need of a replacement ignition module to get it mobile again
Part nos are 022400706 and 00750732 the only one I have been able to locate is from the local Autohaus European outlet being a Bosch replacement unit for $2,200 plus gst which I feel is extremely expensive and is more then the lady can afford. I feel sorry for her due to the car breaking down and being towed to a Takapuna Garage, the crank sensor was replaced then the fuel pump all this costing big bucks, now they are saying it must be the ignition module which they are unable to locate The vehicle is parked up in the back of their yard where it has stayed so long the rego and wof are long expired this car is the love of her life and I would like to help her out
any advice would be gratefuly excepted

This thread might be of some use to you. the ignition controls, also called EZL units, can be used on certain other models. A used one is cheap unless it is from the high compression later models and the 8 pin version, then even used can be pricey. Off the top of my head the number you list doesn't seem to be the pricey one, so I'm guessing the car is an import from a market that didn't have the high compression motors.

The unit could even be repaired, this wasn't an option I didn't think, until recently and places seem to have appeared that do it now. An example:

Good luck!

A few.
I think the number should read 007 545 07 32.

It's the rarer (by some margin) of the 2 EZL's commonly found on W126s w/ 5 litre engines, has 8 pins & is quite expensive used if you can find a working used one, but nothing like the price of a new one.
