Hi new to the site and could really do with some help. My old 230E has decided it dos'nt want to change gear at the right time. At times at 3-4000 revs it will still be in 2nd gear doing 20mph (feels like a clutch slipping but it's not I've been assured the box is ok) other times it will do 70-80 no problem. It does the same with the whole exhuast disconnected so the box is'nt blocked and had the fuel filter changed.I suppose the next thing is the pump but I'm loathed to start spending big money on guesswork.have got 3or4 mechanics scratching their heads at the moment so any ideas would be very welcome

Just about to scrap it when

I found an ex mb mechanic who fancied a challenge, he had it for a week which was worrying. To cut a very long story short it was a combination of the distributor being way way out and it apparently had been for years, which is strange 'cos it always seemed to run ok,replaced the maf with a second hand one and various other fine tunning which quite honestly went over my head. Once the engine was running spot on it was still not changing gear quite at the right time so i then took it back to the auto gearbox guy who did a service on the box, oil change and hydrolic adjustments and it's now going like new. Hopefully I can keeep it for another 10 years cos I love the old girl!!
