Wont you have to change the stub axle as well.

Your wheels will dictate the maximum diameter of disc you can accomodate and the calipers will dictate the maximum thickness. E320s had a good setup with twin-piston calipers and they always seem to work well. In general the biggest standard brakes will be on an E320 estate

E500 brakes should fit but I imagine they're sized for E500 16" rims and won't fit a car with 15s

I'm sure W129 500/560 brakes will fit unless they used a bigger stub axle as TV suggests

I think you'll struggle to get brakes that feel "better" than the standard ones as the system's engineered for the pedal feel the cars have. If you want "better" brakes, in the sense that brushing the pedal snaps your head back against the seat, I think you're starting with the wrong car. But a couple of grand on AP brakes may prove me wrong...

I know that my front disks are 14.2" in diameter, so 18" wheels would have to go on there.....

Stops OK though :)
