I just bought a 91 300SL 5 speed manual, but it does not have a dog leg shift pattern.
It has the I6 M103 engine. Has anyone heard of this?
VIN WDB1290601F007352
Anyone have any insight on this?
A VIN lookup does show it as a manual car, but the shift pattern is like this:

That'll be because it has the standard 5 speed gearbox. The 190e Cosworth has a dog leg gearbox. There might be other Mercedes that had this type of box. BMW seemed to favour them.
My Mitsubushi truck has a dog leg 5 speed, nothing special.

Dog leg first gear patterns are generally for race vehicles that once out of first rarely go back into first.
For road use most people find them awkward to use so they aren't fitted to normal road cars.

On dog leg reverse gear is where first gear is on standard 5 speed box and can cause problems if you are not use to it.
Shoot off backwards at traffic light drag strip !!!
