1994 E220 Drivers Electric Window Fault

Window goes up to about 1/4 inch from top and motor keeps going. Window will lower all the way down and motor stop. I can manually lift window last 1/4 inch but when I try to lower with motor it just whirrs. When I pull it down manually the 1/4 inch the mechanism engages and the window lowers perfectly.
Is the problem with the motor drive to the lifting mechanism? or is it the metal teeth in the lifting mechanism. i.e. will a new motor fix the problem?

You have worn teeth at the top of the regulator quadrant, replacement quadrant needed. If it hasn't been like this too long, you may be lucky with the motor gear being OK.
