I bought a 320 estate last November .
I had a fault with the gearbox change - slipping, no change to top etc. - which was cured by a full change of ATF and gearbox filter. The box takes 1 second to change into D, but 4-5 seconds to change into R.
Is this a common/rare fault and can it be fixed without looming bankruptcy?
Help appreciated!

a 1994 is a non-electronic 'box - you have a E/S switch not a W/S switch?

luckily the earlier box is cheaper to fix...

George Fraser in west london is the best gearbox man - and a full rebuild for my CL 420 electronic box was only 1200 odd quid iirc.. It might be one of the valves getting stuck - I'd call him and or take it to him if you are near..

Hi

Sorry, but it sounds like reverse clutch is burnt out & there is excessive free clearence in their. If you are on a budget. Then reverse is at the front of the box. With the box removed then you can replace it. But you have to ask yourself is it worth NOT stripping the rest of the box while its out.

The choice is yours.

If you close or not so close to the Midlands then book it in with us.
