Thanks in advance.

It is a 14 or 16 pin socket and a blink code reader can be used, its under the bonnet with the cap on it

hi jib,

The problem with the car is that it runs horribly when cold but is ok when warm. Its a real pig to start and drive! Also it will not rev above 4000 rpm.
From looking at some other threads i think it could be a MAF, not that I know what that is yet, so i thought a code reader might help me to pin point if it is that or not?
I also suspect there are other small problems, it is 13 years old after all and has nearly 200,000 on the clock so it would be nice to know of any other problems which aren't obvious, i assume a code reader could tell me these?
thanks

The MAF does not affect cold starting and the car will not rev past 4k in N or P I would check the other sensors

thanks, I will try that tomorrow and report back. Having read up on it further it now seems odd that it would be the MAF seeing as the car runs fine when warm. I will try the two sensors you mention, that diagram is particularly useful, I'm still learning my way around this engine!

whilst I think about it, if i remove the wire of either sensor and then try to start the car in theory it should start and run as if on full choke correct? then when re-connecting the sensor the engine would revert back to being lumpy until warm? so in theory by a process of elimination I should be able to identify which sensor is at fault?

If you are anywhere near me I can show you what I use and read the codes for you.

Where you based.

If it is one of the 2 then yes
