Hello there

I recently posted a query looking for advice on why water was pouring in from under the passenger dash after heavy rain.

bigasotonuk & television responded with excellent advice, and television actually provided me with guides on how to unblock the drains behind the heater block.

BIG THANK YOU to you both, especially television.

My next query is around the same area - since the water started coming in the heater fan doesn't work. I hope with clearing the blocked drain that I can now fit a reconditioned heater blower motor.

This happened before last Christmas and the winter was a nightmare.

So in order to get my fan working again - can anyone advise on what needs to be done to replace the heater blower motor?

I have tried google, and it seems that the heater blower motor is 'inside' the passenger dash, underneath the glove compartment, and is accessed by removing the cover underneath.

Can anyone offer any advice on what exactly I need to do to get my fan working?

Again, advice very much appreciated (I am not a car tech - I do though have tech skills in another area which I hope will help me).

Thanks

John Henry

hi john henry,

my haynes manual seems to have all the details. it's a three spanner job - but note - i haven't tried this myself!!

in summary:

to remove the lower passenger fascia you need to remove the side vent panel on right hand side first
then undo the screws holding fascia in place and withdraw the panel rearwards, unhooking locating lugs at front edge of panel
you'll see two white plastic locking clips - move them together to release access panel
disconnect wiring plug and lower access panel down to remove it
undo two screws securing the blower resistance pack and disconnect two wires from it (note which way round they are connected)
unscrew and remove 4 torx screws securing the blower motor and lower it out

get your new motor and do all the above in reverse ;-)

have fun!

jules.

With the blower motor, if it runs on the slowest setting only then the reg pack has failed, turn on the ignition and listen, if it does not run at all then could be carbon brushes stuck or worn out. the motor can be run on 12volts once out of the car to check,, if brushes worn out, then Ebay circa £14

Thank you Jules and Television for replying so quickly, I am grateful.

Television - the fan blower does not run at all. I had assumed this was because the leak coming into the passenger dash had ruined the electrics of the heater motor.

Could that be the case?

Or am I not giving enough credit to Merc engineers (perhaps the over-flow is designed to bypass the heater motor)?

I will look into how to replace brushes on a heater blower meantime.

Thanks again

John
