Have hit a fox and smashed the plastic front under panel. Is it called an apron? Will I have to get this from a Mercedes dealership at I suppose a frightening cost or are they available as spares elsewhere?
Thanks folks!

They do come up on E-bay quite regularly. Do a search on E class and there are a couple on there at the moment. You just have to check that they are not for the facelift 210.

Thanks malcolm210. Would you know if the plastic under apron is all part of the bumper unit? I'll keep my eye on E-Bay!!

On my facelift 210 which is probably the same as yours, the engine undertray is made up of three parts. Front, (just beneath the front spoiler)
middle (requires dropping down to change the oil) and rear section (sits below the gearbox).

I've just replaced the front section, due to speed humps wearing a hole in it, cost approx £85 but it is a large item.

I would imagine that the best thing to do if yours requires changing is to buy new from a dealer as I did, the chances of them coming up on e-bay or a breakers in good condition are remote.

Thanks again Malcolm. Are we talking about the same component? The part that I need sits directly under the bumper and holds the foglights. It is really a part of the bodywork but is made of plastic and shattered upon impact.

Is this the part you are talking about and if it is i would think that it is the front bumper cover.

Thanks Ian

Yes that is it. Fits under the front bumper across the front of the car. It also has some plastic grill-like inserts. My car is green. Don't know if that impacts on matters?
