Had to replace injector pipe to 5th cylinder recently & thought all well-but local garage advise me that there is diesel around the bottom of the injector unit. They cleaned it all off & did test run to prove diesel leaking but can't identify where from- a vague underneath? Can only be apparent looking up from under the car & apparently there are a number of pipes connected underneath, I wonder if anyone has had a similar problem & can suggest possible remedy. Thanks.

I can't be certain but I would guess at either one of the injector pipe unions is leaking slightly at the union or the leak off pipe is leaking or not tight.

I would have thought a clean off and subsequent engine running test should reveal all.

The only high pressure diesel is out of the top of the pumping barrels into the injector pipes, the rest of the system after the lift pump is low pressure and before the lift pump is under vacuum so can't leak.

You have possibly disturbed the seal on the banjo connection when you undid the injector pipe.

There are no diesel connections on the bottom of the pump body, as it only contains the lubricating oil for the pump internals. The diesel must be running down from the top of the pump.

re diesel injector E250

Thank you dieselman. Obviously there is more investigation. Its a great help that you described the injector-the garage convinced me it was leaking from below.

Hi

The other place to try is where the pipe connects to the pump. At the base you will see the a sort of double hex (star\asterix) shaped cylindrical. Held down by a torxs screw. The injector delivery valve is underneath. There is a rubber seal underneath which may have gone brittal and cracked. The next problem is to get the parts. Only from the stealership. They may not find it at first but perservere.

Hope this helps.

Regards

Parts should be available from any decent Bosch diesel agent.

1997 e250D injector pump leak

My thanks to all the helpful info. Fault fixed but took a while because you have to thoroughly clean all pipes/parts and then crawl about in impossible positions to find source of leak--and then do it all again. It turned out to be a "U" shaped clear plastic pipe connection to the injector pump. Part not held by MB who had to get it from Germany. New part has heavily modified fitting/seal. This pipe appears to be a return from the injector to the diesel fileter
