Hi Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone out there can elp me with a little query on my C class...

On the rear vier mirror there are 2 lights, red and green...duh!! i hear you all say thats to do with the alarm and immobiliser..however for the first 5 to 10 mins of driving the red light keeps flashing...car runs and drives but this little red light is now driving me mad. The dealer where i brought the car from ( not an MB dealer) says that this is normal, but it didn't do it when i brought the car a month ago!!. The only thing i can find about the light is to replace the batteries in the key fob which I have done, but it keeps flashing..is it a problem or is the dealer right?

Thanks in advance...Chris

Mine does this itermitantly, seems to happen on the coldest days and I wondered if this is some kind of low tempreture /Ice warning as my outside air temp gauge does not appear to be connected

Your Mercedes
c238,w120 (diesel)
ive seen this on my own c220 many times, and every time it's cured by replacing the batteries in the key fob with brand new ones

please try replacing those batteries and see what happens, i note you've said you have already done so, so perhaps your car battery itself is in need of replacement, worth trying a new set of batteries in the key fob anyway...

in addition, how are the lights flashing, both together (on off) or red/green in alternate ?

you can also resync the key to the car by doing this (and worth reading this thread) >

Your red light should not come on while driving. In 96/97, a lot of alarms were fitted at the dealer. If the alarm loses it's ignition feed, it will passive arm & this could be what's happening to your car. The alarm gets it's ignition feed from the brake light switch circuit. Has your car got an alarm & does it passive arm if you unlock it & then leave it for a minute?
