Hi, I have a 220 CDI what has a strange problem:
I had a problem with my mass airflow meter and replaced this, right after replacement my high pressure fuel pump broke down and just have that replaced now the car has a problem starting even when the engine is cold or hot. (no glowplugs I assume).

In order to troubleshoot I used a cleanable fuel filter what has a pretty big cup what should hold fuel after I switch the car off. I found out that somewhere somehow the fuel go back to the tank with a result that once I try to start the car it will take about min before the fuel reach the high pressure pump. Once I have the car started (yes 10 min even when cold or hot) the car drives fine, no loss in power either but as soon as I switch it off and try to turn it back on it takes another 10 min. Anyone any idea? I live on a small Island in the Caribbean and the garages here are without any knowlage about Mercedes.
Thanks!

sounds like you have a leak on the low pressure side causing fuel to leak back to the tank,
id replace the filter and low pressure plastic fuel lines to illiminate this, very cheap fix to try

Okay I will replace the clear plastic hose and check the "O" rings or just replace them as I have a few new ones laying around. I will let you know the results.
Thanks!

MB Tech, do you have any idea where I could buy complete clear hoses for my 1998 220 CDI?

Thanks

Get them from an MB dealer, the size is quite critical if you want to stop the leaks

Thanks Malcom! I have send them a email, let's hope for a quick answer.

Paul

They are not expensive on this type of part, they charge 50p for each O ring, but it will be the right one and size
