Hi all, first post so please be gentle!
I've had my '98 R-plate C240auto for just under a year now and its just done 100K.
Recently its been running like an old bag of spanners.
From a cold start it seems to idle quite fast, initially about 1,500rpm in park.
Once i shift it into drive it will drop to about 1000revs, then slowly work its way down to about 600 or so.
If i try to pull away straight after cold starting it when its idling fast, there is absolutely no power whatsoever, this does improve a bit if I let it warm up a bit first though.
Whilst driving i have found accelaration very slugish, kickdown is very delayed and jerky when it does eventually decide to play.
This is my first Merc (always driven BMW's in the past), so i know little to nothing about them if i'm being perfectly honest.
I've asked around a bit and spoken to a mechanic friend of mine about it, everyone seems to think it going to be the mass air flow sensor (MAF).
My mech friend has scanned for fault codes and there was nothing recorded.
Any ideas? would anyone else agree on the M.A.F, or should I be looking elsewhere before I put my hand in my pocket to replace this sensor?
Many thanks in advance for any advice offered.
Sam.
