Well I’ve just took a punt on a very cheap estate.
Then found out why so cheap.
I wanted a wagon to help me build offices here on the farm. Pulling trailers materials etc.
However, found it very underpowered. No power at low Dec’s, won’t move car till warmed up a bit in the morning, also the bodywork has rust spots all over it.
But, I really like the feel and drive of the car. It’s like an old Merc, 124 style.
So I cleaned the EGR valve and found buckets of black muck in there.
That cleared a lot of the black smoke.
Then unplugged MAF and no change in engine. Mmmm is that a sensor gone or something else.
Then got a nice headache on a longer run. Hmmmm.
Then read all about Black Death on here.
Removed engine cover and..,,
Yes covered in black coal dust goo and hard stuff all over it.
I reckon all four of the injectors need doing.
And another few small jobs.like rad fan temp sensor is gone so fan stays on all the time.
Do I cut my losses and scrap it?
It will never becworth anything and will take me two days to sort out at least.
I went for a spin in a 05 c220cdi and thought it was awful
In comparison. Noisy and too much plastic, what to do.
I can’t decide what to do.
Any advice?

Price up how much for the bits, add in your time.

Will it then be the builders load lugger you need for your project?

You don’t have to care about cosmetics if it’s a cheap runner, slap on rust converter and get a rattle can mixed up, it’ll look fine from 10 yards :)

(As against scrap and the cost of another purchase - which may also have issues up its sleeve)

Well I found some of the problems.
All four injectors with Black Death.
Pulled them all with help of a injector removal tool, €89
New bolts and washers as per great advice on this forum.
The carbon was knee deep in the injectors bay. Chiseled it out and hovered.
My Hoover packed in!
Then second hand steering box, €90, new linkage assembly,€100, steering oil€10, spray cans 30€, and hard work,
Second hand EGR &40€.
Total €360 and service parts.
Say €400 all in and she’s good for another 100k.
I hope!
Great forum
Thanks for all the help
