Hi,

New to this forum and only had the above for 6 weeks or so. Over the past week have been having problems with the acceleration. Its an intermittent fault, where when you press the accelerator there is no power, and it takes a long time for the engine to pick up and acccelerate away. The power if normal in the first few cm of press in the pedal, but after that there is nothing. This was dangerous, e.g. when pulling out of junctions etc, so took it to my local MB garage and they charged me 90 for a diagnostic, and couldnt really tell me what it was, due to alot of stored faults on the system. They cleared it and a few dasy later the fault happened again, so i took it to Greenvale in Manchester, and they did a diagnostic (for free!) and said it was the Throttle Actuator. They said it was an unusual thing to go and didnt really or normally replace them. So took it into MB garage again today and they are installing a new Throttle Actuator, for the pricey sum of 649.

Just wondering if anyone has heard of this fault before, is it common? And am i doing the right thing?

Anyother tips etc to do with my car from other owners etc, would be appreciated. (plus im interested in getting some AMG wheels for my merc too...if there are any going for relitavly cheap)

Cheers

Rob.

Thanks guys.

Yes they did check the air mass sensor, however it did not show again after they cleared the diagnostic log, so i guess it wasnt that.

Just good to know that its not a serious, or rare part to go.

To be honest, to charge £90 to diagnose a fault and come back and say "no fault found" when there clearly was a fault is a disgrace !

Thats why I hate taking my car to any of the Main Dealers for these sorts of problems. You just get stung for a massive bill for a job that really isn't such a big deal.

You are far better off using a decent independent who is a proper mechanic who understands how an engine works rather than this useless bunch.
