Hi
Can anybody please help me track down the reason my cruise control will not work, and suggest how I can fix/test it myself. I have a 1999 C250 Classic Auto TD Estate. The cuise has never worked since I have had the car, although the speed limiter works fine. It will not set, resume, accelerate or do anything. I know it is not essential, but it would really make long journeys easier if it I could use it.
Thanks in advance.

have you pushed the stalk in so the light goes off?

then drive above 20mph and push the stalk up and see if it sets the cruise for you!

Thanks slinkyjoe.
Have tried operating it with the limiter light off, but just will not work. Maybe a problem with the stalk itself. I know they get a bit abused as they often get caught trying to turn on the indicators.
Have gone through all the fuses one by one, and all fine. Any suggestions? As always your help is much appreciated.
Kind regards
KP

The cruse control stopped working on my C-class when the main car battery started aging and loosing voltage.Everything else worked fine.A new battery solved the problem.

Thanks
I'll get a new brake light switch, and give that a try.
I'll let you know if it works out.
Best regards

Thank you for your help. It now works perfectly. It was a faulty brake light switch. I bought a replacement from MB dealer for £11. It was a swine to get to, but managed to put on the new switch myself in about 45 minutes. It was working well enough to operate brake lights, as normal, and would allow selection of gears (Automatic Box), but the cruise control related part in the switch is very fragile. Please check this first before replacing expensive cruise modules etc.
Thanks again, all the best.

Hi

Good to know that was your problem. I thought the ABS light had to come on as well. That was the reason i did not suggest changing the brake light switch.

Good to get it fixed, i could not do without it.
