1999 clk 320 went to car wash today and after had water in my right side passenger at front where cowl meets floor. There is a cover at the base of the dash (horizontal) that has holes in it for ventalation and it has insulation on it and it was soaked. I unscrewed it and took it off and there is a black box the side of 10 by 8 inches that has a plug going in to it and 2 clips on it. I moved the clips and dropped it down and about 8 oz of water poured down. It looks like this has a motor that has a spinning rotor in it. I dried it all out and now have a fan on it. The water is definitely from the car wash because it had a red tint to it and smelled like the car wash soap. 1. how did the water get in. 2. do i have to worry about regular rain? 3 do you think this is a one time problem.

You will need to remove the air intake box in front of the screen along with any filter if fitted and there is a drain hole in the bottom. better cleaned out sooner rather than later,,or it could damage the heater motor rugulator

Hey everyone I just wanted to thank both Television and Type 49 for their help. I was able to use the information Type 49 quickly provided and clear out the clogged drain.

I was even confident enough to reassemble the heater motor covers in the passenger side and pull up the passenger carpet and verify that the entire area below was in fact saturated (found this out from numerious water posts) and I was able to pull it all out and dry it all down. I now have a completely dry right passenger side and once the carpet completely dries I will be good to go.

If anyone is looking to take their benz to a car wash it is well worth the time to first shoot some air in the drain areas or check the drain plug before you go. It would have saved me over 6 hours this weekend.

This is the best forum, it most likely saved me about $500 from having a local mechanic find the leak and dry everything out.

Thanks So much,

JPO
