1999 w124 ???

hi all,

just came across an ad for a 1999 e220 ( w124 ) in a local paper for sale. I thought production ended in 1996/7 but sure as gold is soft if I ring about it I will surely end up buying it and i could do with staying on the good side of swmbo !!!

I would say your right i think production of 124s finished 1995/96. they might have got the ad wrong.

It could be an Indian built one.

thats what i thought but the reg plate show its as registered in 1999 alright.

now to the delicate question , are the Indian versions built to the same standard as the German built ones ?

A few members on here and over on MBClub own them and say they are just as well built as the German ones.

Hopefully a member who owns or has owned one will chip in with some opinion.

I have read that the only differences were the suspension having a higher ride hieght than a German built one. Also i believe they were all 220s to the same spec, cloth interiors and a/c.

You`re right,they sit higher than the german built.As for the spec leather was an option but many went for cloth due to hot weather
You only had two engine options,220 petrol or 250 diesel and no auto option
They were all manual and the latest one I`ve seen was 2001

I think you will find they are German built, and were send out in knockdown kits to be assembled in India and other Asian countries.
