a week or so ago My 1999 W208 Clk stopped flashing the indicators when locking on the key , now a couple of days ago it now wont open the car and it wont start it or light up the dash when the keys inserted The Key has had new batteries couple of months ago and the red light flashes when the buttons are pressed
I'm wondering what the next steps are ? and yes only 1 key for the car so cant try the other
is the cessation of the flashing a clue that its a module ( EIS ?? ) in the car ????

had a quick look yesterday and thought does the key turn? ...... no so lets see what the battery is like , lights on.........nothing so likely explanation the battery is dead (only been left maybe a week , so hoiked the battery out by going in thru the rear seats and lifted it out , have you tried lifting a 22kg Battery out of the bootwell flat on your front with only limited movement .......and the boot floor panel on your head with the boot shut ?. not easy but its out now Voltage 0.17V !!!!! that looks like catastrophic failure of the Battery to me my CTEK is on it but there are no lights on the charging progress trail at all so dont think its going to recharge so looking for my receipt now was it a 2 or 3 or 5 yr warranty and when did i buy it Probably a new Battery coming

Batteries that go flat sometimes wont charge with a charger unless given a first jolt by a jumpstart for eg.

^ This exactly. A CTEK won't bring a battery at .17v back to life. I'd be trying an 8 amp charger or similar to try and recover but it does sound your battery has reached the end of it's life. Don't rule out the possibility that you have a battery drain.
