Hi,

Futher to the 'Maximum Miles' thread, tomorrow 11th April, I am going to attempt to cover 1,000 miles in less than 24hrs in the UK. I am doing this for no other reason than I can (or at least I think I can, I know the car can do it).
I really need to get some sleep now as I'm planning to get up at 4am to make a start. However I have a few heating and cooking related issues (pls see 'heating oil' thread in Benz Bin). Once I get that sorted I can make some food then get to bed.

Wish me luck.:)

Yup, good luck!
Try and avoid those traffic jams. If you head towards Scotland the traffic gets a lighter North of Preston, easy high speed miles to be had.

now i assume my calculator is working, that means you will need to average 42mph all day to achive your goal. and as you have said you are visiting poeple en-route. do you intend on staying a while?

so lets say 1 hr at the 3 stops. that puts us up to 48mph for the whole day.

Well, i cant really say its the best idea as sleep deprivation could mean it becomes dangerous. but looking positive, all the best, hope it works out for you and i look forward to the feedback.

and if you see a black SLK charging about round Leeds ish around 12noon, it may be me getting the engine upgrade to find its parameters.

Thanks SLinKyjoe for moving the post.
I will just have to see how it goes although I'm going to take it easy, marathon rather than sprint.
I will try and keep a log and take a few picc's. I'll look out for an SLK on my way past leeds - shuld be mid to late afternoon if I get it right. Don't plan on stopping above 1/2 hr on any of the stops.
The Aga is just about working so I can leave it alone now, so I'm off to bed and although I probably won't be around to post tomorrow I'll let you know what happend on Thursday.

Good luck Blobcat, hope you manage to do the 1,000 miles without falling asleep. I see the weather forecast is for sunshine this morning but rain this afternoon

I was talking to blobcat one day, I think it was a PM, when he asked what I thought of the thread, "whats the furthest you have driven in one day" very good idea, said I, and here we are, or there he is, doing it.

Fair play to the man, and I hope he makes it. My wife keeps asking me how much mess do you need to make with your DIY?. I still keep exceeding her expectations!
She said make a mess and your in trouble.
I am in trouble.

Thanks all for the messages, much appreciated. As you can see I'm posting.
So the question is did I make it?

I'll just keep you waiting a bit longer..

not much longer now..

YES I made it. :D :D :D :D

Left at 04:35, arrived home at 23:52 and just over 1,000 miles covered.

I will write some details tomorrow, all I can say right now is that my W210 E320CDI is absolutely amazing. I feel great, no aches (as yet) at all.

I should think the car would it again without batting an eyelid - its would be the zombie in the driving seat that would be the problem methinks!
